Trust depends on our perception, the level of our belief. When we are at a higher level of trust, we need to take care not to do too much. When we are at a lower level, we must be careful to do enough.*

* Rav Yosef Chaim Zonnenfeld as a student was penniless and lived frugally. When he really needed money, he would take a walk in the streets and after a few blocks find a gold napoleon. This happened a number of times. Once, however, he went walking thus looking at the ground as he walked, and a man stopped him. "Excuse me," he said to Rav Yosef Chaim, "did you lose something here?" Rav Yosef Chaim blushed. He had been caught putting his trust into perceived circumstances rather than into the Creator.
